SEO Technical Tips to get your website visible online:
Your site can be well-written and optimized with all the best keywords, but if you do not have the capabilities to implement SEO practices from the technical side, your site may not be reaping the full benefits of search engine optimization. If your site has any of the following technical issues, search engines will not be able to effectively crawl and rank your site—thus affecting your SEO rankings.
Robots.txt
robots.txt is a file that indicates to search engine spiders “what” and “where” they can spider, therefore an improperly set up robots.txt file can hinder search engine spiders from crawling the pages of your site.
302 Redirects
Both 302’s and Meta refresh redirects are not search engine friendly. If the site redirects are not implemented correctly, then they will waste the search power they provide.
301 Redirects
If your site does not have a domain beginning with www, you will need a “301” server site redirect so spiders do not see your site as having two separate domains and thus split the success results.
XML sitemap Guidelines
XML sitemap files cannot exceed 50,000 URL’s or 10MB in uncompressed file-size. If files exceeding those limits are released on a website, the engines will not process the files.
Rel=nofollow
rel=”nofollow” code will tell search engines not to follow these pages i.e. the search engine will not count nofollow pages toward SEO.
